The spirit of giving is in the air as the holiday season approaches!

Gifts of food from our community are vital to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes—about 25% of the food we distribute throughout Kalamazoo County comes from donations from generous individuals like you.

Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes maintains a complete food wish list that reflects what is needed in the KLF Warehouse.

Monthly wish list items:

September: Canned meats

October: Soups and stews

 What is needed most in our warehouse? Fruit – canned, as juice, or as juice boxes. If you have a fresh fruit donation, please call us at 488-2617 ext. 224 before dropping it off.

We have organized the following list by protein, fruits & vegetables, grainsextras, and non-food items to reflect the organization of these food items at the Grocery Pantry level. These foods are essential and ensure that nutritional items are available, by choice, for families and households.

Proteins:

Items that make this list need six grams of protein or more.

  • beef stew
  • tuna
  • canned meat (chicken or Spam)
  • baked beans
  • corned beef hash
  • pork and beans
  • peanut butter
  • macaroni & cheese
  • hearty soups
  • ravioli
  • microwaveable meals

Fruits & Vegetables:

  • spaghetti sauce
  • canned vegetables (beans, corn, peas, etc.)
  • 100% fruit juice (preferred in the can, if possible)
  • apple sauce
  • fruit cocktail and other canned fruit
  • seasonal fresh produce from a farm or home garden

Grains:

  • rice
  • pasta/spaghetti
  • canned potatoes
  • elbow macaroni
  • oatmeal
  • breakfast cereals

Extras:

(These items don’t necessarily fit into other categories so they are here.)

  • soup (hearty soups with 8 grams of protein or more are considered “proteins”)
  • flour
  • jelly
  • gravy

Non-Food Items:

  • formula (both milk & soy based)

Please try to avoid donating rusty, badly damaged cans and anything in glass containers or that has expired.
